The aim of this course is for students to acquire the necessary ability and skills to provide midwifery care to women who have recently given birth and to newborns, before, during and after a normal or invasive birth. Also, students are expected to be able to promptly diagnose and, in cooperation with the obstetrician, deal with potential pathological conditions.
VAGINAL / NORMAL BIRTH
• Anatomy of the female pelvis and fetal skull.
• Physiology of childbirth (onset, progress, stages of labor, adaptation of the maternal and fetal organism to the needs of birth).
• Mechanism of childbirth.
• Perception of labor pain. Pharmaceutical and alternative methods of pain relief.
• Obstetric care – Checking the condition of the fetus with electronic fetal monitoring.
• Clinical evaluation of the progress of labor. Labor chart, alimony, positions and postures, environment, communication.
DELIVERY IN ABNORMAL POSITIONS OF THE OCCIPITAL PROJECTION
• Posterior position of the occipital projection, transverse position.
• Obstetric care for the abnormal positions of the occipital projection.
ABNORMAL BIRTH PRESENTATIONS
• Face presentation, Frontal presentation, Breech presentation, Transverse position (causes, diagnosis, mechanism of labor, complications).
• Midwifery care in abnormal presentations.
UTERUS MALFUNCTION. PROLONGED PREGNANCY. LABOR INDUCTION.
• Causes, diagnosis, midwifery care.
(CEPHALOPELVIC) DISPROPORTION
• Causes, diagnosis, midwifery care, medical intervention.
SHOULDER DYSTOCIA

MULTIPLE PREGNANCY AND LABOR
