The Professional Rights of Midwives

Graduates of the Department of Midwifery are employed in the following areas of work:

  1. Primary care: Health Centers, Regional Clinics, Rural Clinics, Health Stations, Obstetrics and Gynecological Clinics (Greek IKA), and other centers of Public Enterprises and Organizations, in the National Center for Immediate Assistance (Greek EKAB) in the emergency obstetric and gynecological transport units as well as in family planning departments.
  2. Secondary and Tertiary care: General and Special Hospitals, Obstetrics Departments (Delivery Room, Outpatient Obstetrics Clinics, Labor Departments, Normal Newborns 1st Level Hospitalization, Prenatal Control Unit, High Risk Pregnancy Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), Gynecology Departments, Gynecological Oncology, external Gynecological Clinics, Surgeries, Obstetrics – Gynecological sterilization departments, Breast Centers, Genital Cancer Detection Centers.
  3. In the sector of education according to the applicable legislation. They can also progress through the entire spectrum of the management hierarchy relevant to their specialty.
  4. To exercise the profession as freelancers, provided that they have a two years’ experience in their activities, in accordance with the objects of their education, in Hospitals or other health institutions, certified for this purpose, and after obtaining a relevant license from the Ministry of Health.
