The aim of the present course is to provide students with all the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills on pathological and surgical nursing, so that, later, they can offer the suitable and appropriate, according to each case, care to patients who either suffer from special pathological conditions of the various human systems, or have developed neoplastic diseases, have had, or are going to, undergo a surgery.
The laboratory course’s outline includes the following:
- Patient’s admission to the clinic. Patient settlement at the ward and at the clinic.
- Recording of patient’s nursing history. Patient’s personal care.
- Creation of a nursing care plan.
- Observation of the medical visit.
- Clinical examination of the patient (inspection, auscultation, palpation, percussion).
- Monitoring vital signs.
- Preoperative patient’s care.
- Patient’s reception from the operative room.
- Treatment of surgical, other trauma or burn. Prevention of infections.
- Performing an electrocardiogram.
- Blood sugar measurement. Insulin administration. Hydration and diabetic foot care.
- Placement of intravenous catheter and intravenous drip.
- Administration of medicines in various ways.
- Blood sampling. Laboratory check. Blood gases, evaluation of results.
- Administration of oxygen in various ways. Use of a nebulizing mask. Patient positioning in Fowler, semi-Fowler position.
- Parenteral nutrition.
- Insertion of a bladder catheter.
- Application of nasogastric catheter. Fixation and care.
- Blood transfusion.
- Patient preparation for diagnostic tests (gastroscopy, spirometry).
